Six
months ago, the Delran Bears 11U District Baseball team started their annual
winter workouts with two goals in mind: “Win Districts, Win States”. Were
they crazy, you ask? Maybe, but this scrappy young bunch of Bears knew one
thing, when times get tough, they get tougher and never, ever give up. Through
all the blood, sweat, tears, missing hats and soccer cleats (don’t ask), they
kept their eyes on the prize and worked hard to be playing their best baseball
when the District Tournament came along. Delran busted through the
District #4 Tournament with a 4-0 record, recording their 4th straight
Cal Ripken District Championship.
Next was the SNJ State
Tournament held in Hopewell Valley, NJ. Despite the extreme heat and
storm delays, Delran advanced to the State Final unbeaten in the Tournament to
meet their biggest foe, the 3-time State Champion Marlton Reds. The
Championship Round would take two games, and after hibernating through the
first game, the Bears awoke just in time in Game 2 to jump out to a big lead in
the 1st inning, and take down the mighty Reds for Delran
Baseball’s 1st Cal Ripken State Championship!
Delran is now 21-7 on the
season, and is getting ready to head up to Poughkeepsie, NY to compete in the
Cal Ripken Middle Atlantic Regional Tournament, where they will compete with
teams from DE, MD, NJ, NY and PA.
